We are in a time of increased tensions, uncertainties and changes in the Catholic Church . Particularly troubling is the loss of moral authority resulting from the continuing sexual abuse crisis and evidence of institutional coverup. The purpose of this site is to examine what is happening by linking to worldwide news stories, particularly from the English speaking church and the new breath of fresh air blowing through the church with the pontificate of Pope Francis. As veterans will know, long ago our crowd in Oakland dubbed their Cathedral of Christ the Light the "Space Egg" ...and come Roman Noon tomorrow, the East Bay's postmodern seat will receive the third bishop of its less than five-year year existence.
According to a memo issued this morning by the apostolic administrator of the 600,000-member diocese – Seattle's emeritus Archbishop Alex Brunett – the successor of the now-Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, named to San Francisco last July amid a firestorm, is to be revealed Friday morning and, in a remarkably quick turnaround, will take office 22 days later, on May 25th at 11am.

...well, as always, stay tuned.

Actually, the Diocese of Oakland was created in 1962 so it has been in existence rather more than five years. Presumably he means there have been three bishops (including the present administrator) within the past three years. The two previous bishops, Alan Vigneron and Salvatore Cordileone, were made archbishops in a short time. It will be interesting to see who is named tomorrow.
